Why build a base for your garden building?

Buildings without the right base can be difficult to assemble. In many cases, incorrectly assembled buildings could lead to further deterioration such as doors falling out of place and becoming difficult to open/close or water leakage. Garden buildings must be assembled on a solid, sturdy base made from appropriate material.

A garden building that is assembled on an improper base will likely void any warranty your product may have.

Where to build a base in your garden ?

There are a few things you should consider when deciding where to put your garden building

The base should not be placed too close or near any fences or walls, as there may be an overhang on the roof. The base should not be placed next to large trees or bushes. This is especially true if they are likely to grow in the future and could come into contact with the building. Branches and tree’s should be cut in advance.

When deciding on the best location for your garden building and base, consider accessibility. For example, access to the sides of the garden building for wood treatments or preservation. Think about the garden building in the chosen location, would you want to transport heavy or large objects down to the garden’s end. For log cabins and summerhouses, you may want to think about where the building will receive the most natural light. If you plan to install an electric or water supply to your garden structure, you will need to think about where it would be most convenient to do this.

What materials should we use for the right base?

The following bases are recommended to support your garden building’s weight.

Concrete Pad
Timber Framed Base
Slabs

Our Installation Teams will not assemble our buildings on Eco Friendly Plastic Bases. They are too weak and will not support the weight of our building, and they don’t prevent water ingress.

How do you build a base?

The first step is to contact us for a floor plan of your garden shed or summerhouse. This will ensure that your base is strongest where it needs to be. We also recommend using a professional local builder, as the base is the bedrock on which your garden building will rest for it’s lifetime. However, if you are confident with the task it is possible to make your own base.

Please note: It’s strongly recommended that your base be built to the exact dimensions of the shed, or slightly larger than the dimensions for the garden building. Contact us for your floor plan.
